Fast DIY: How to transform your make-up into skincare. Part 1: improving on your foundation

The objective of a foundation is to cover up skin imperfections with a color that approximates the color of your skin. There may be some light reflecting particles (mica) in there too, but it is mainly a solution of medium viscosity that keeps pigments (iron oxides, etc.) in suspension. Titanium and zinc oxide will provide some sun protection and will reflect light. These are the ingredient of a typical foundation:

Water, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Dimethicone, Isohexadecane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trehalose, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Propylene Carbonate, Lecithin, Laureth-7, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Dimethicone Silylate, Xanthan Gum, Dipropylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide, Silica, Coconut Acid, Disodium EDTA, PhenoxyethanolMay Contain: Mica, Iron Oxides (Ci 77491),Iron Oxides (Ci 77492),Iron Oxides (Ci 77499), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Zinc Oxide (Ci 77947), Bismuth Oxychloride (Ci 77163)

Some ingredients here, like coconut acid,  don’t exist in chemistry but exist as an INCI. Coconut acid is, apparently, a mix of fatty acids derived from coconut oil. Don’t use this product or a similar one if you have acne problems, these fatty acids are a favorite food for the acne bacteria. Preservatives will keep the foundation from “going bad” and giving you a nasty infection.

The ideal way to help your skin is to apply collagen serum and layering the foundation on top.How to improve on a foundation? An easy way is to add a couple of milliliters of SAS collagen serum and mix thoroughly by closing the bottle and inverting it a few times. This will save you

Another option is to add a couple of drops of antiox booster, because the foundation is an emulsion of water and oils, so you could add either.  A single drop will do, more could potentially change the color of the foundation too much for your taste.
