Actives vs. makeup. One example.

Makeup: gives the look of more and more volumized eyelashes. Incidentally, volumizing is a styling technique that refers to giving body to hair. Think 1970s.

Ingredients:

Water, Acrylates/Ethylhexyl Acrylate Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Alcohol, Glycerin, Dimethicone, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Carnauba Wax, Stearic Acid, Shea Butter, Castor) Seed Oil, Biotin, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tromethamine, Hydroxyacetophenone, Acrylates Copolymer, Xanthan Gum, Disodium Carboxyethyl Siliconate, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Laureth-21, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Citric Acid, Tocopherol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Iron Oxides.

In this product, we recognize the fact that eyelashes are made by live cells that need nutrients and vitamins. These cells respond to growth factors because they have receptors that bind to them.  The keratinocyte growth factor is one of them, appearing in the list as sh-Polypeptide-3 (its unfortunate, almost anonymous, INCI name).

We know that hair is made of live cells, but the industry continues ignoring this basic fact, going as far as plasticizing the scalp using chemicals that can polymerize proteins!

Take home message: ignore reality at your own risk.
