Why spend your money on a cleansing oil?

You could, of course, use just water, but in this case, the “grime” of the day will stay put.

You could use some soap and water, but you may remove stuff that needs not be removed, like fatty acids and ceramides that are part of your skin barrier, which prevent the outside pollutants from getting in, and keep water inside.

You could go for alcohol, or witch hazel alcoholic extract, but you would be eliminating the same components that water and detergent would remove, plus you would be drying your skin badly.

You could go for proteases like papain but that would be a bit of an overreach, because you don’t need to break down proteins into peptides to clean the skin. Plus you may be one of the many unlucky people who are allergic to papain.

You could go for some essential oil to make you feel “purified” but if you go for a fancy cleanser with essential oils you may get some grapefruit pressed oil (plus citral, citronellol, eugenol, geraniol, limonene, linalool) and it may irritate your skin.  Actually, your skin does not need”purification”.

There are not many ways to cleanse your skin while protecting its integrity. You need to preserve the skin barrier, avoid irritation and dryness and still remove the “gunk”, which includes excess dust, pollutants and whatever else settled on the skin during the day, plus remove excess sebum, dead cells, etc.

If you pay $150 for a “phyto blanc cleansing milk” you will get some extra mineral oil and lemon juice which you don’t need, so save yourself some money. In the Skin Actives oil cleanser you will find castor seed oil, and hint of a very mild surfactant (detergent) and lots of lipid-soluble antioxidants. Enjoy cleaning your skin while you also preserve its health.
