Just in case you haven’t heard about it, a new kind of weight-loss/diabetes medication has revolutionized how we see obesity. And that is a great thing. Obesity is a health problem because it causes a lot more than “just” mental distress for people who are obese. I could list the health problems that follow long-term obesity, but they are familiar to many and are also easily found online. If obesity was ever a sign of wealth, this association has long been gone from first-world societies. Nowadays, it’s a sign of “low class,” lack of willpower, or whatever. Obese girls are not cool. You can say that you have a face that reflects your life of smiles, laughs, sadness, and success. Or you can say that your face is full of dynamic wrinkles caused mainly by too much facial movement, crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, forehead lines, 11 lines, and marionette lines. You can say that soy contains useful phytoestrogens. Or you can say that certain preservatives are endocrine disruptors. See who is talking, ask what he is selling. Plastic surgery or paraben-free skincare products? I find it interesting how people can be so vocal about one thing and then another depending on who pays their salary.

After bariatric surgery you will lose some and win some, and some of it will be great and others not that much. Here are some examples of what you will/may lose, depending on how you take care of yourself after the surgery. There is only that much magic the surgeon can do for you, the rest if up to you. You will lose: Weight Diabetes (yay!) this will help your skin because there will be less protein glycosylation, and that is good for the proteins (skin included) and for you. Why do you need healthy skin? Why do you need young skin? For many people, their face and the age their face projects to the world, will determine whether they get a particular job or whether they get to the second date. We may not like it, but it’s a fact. How we look is important. Even for those of us who don’t go out much, our skin is incredibly important. If your life is good and you want to keep living it into your 90’s, healthy skin will make an enormous difference.
