It is not only what you should do. it’s more important what you shouldn’t do. Say “no” (big ones) to the following UV: wear sunscreen! No to suntan. No to sunbeds (who invented those)? Oxidants: no to benzoyl peroxide! Don’t over-peel. Your skin barrier is precious Why not? UV, oxidants (ROS*) break your cell’s DNA and cause mutations. They also break proteins and polysaccharides, they damage cell membranes. In short, they damage and kill. “Over-peel” will denude your skin of its skin barrier, its “raison d’être”, the reason for its existence, which is to separate the body from the environment. Peel and peel and then there is a continuity between…

Do men need skin care at all? YES. We “accept” men’s aged skin not because it looks or works better (than that of a woman) but because we (society) judge men by other standards than how smooth their skin is (money and power come to mind). If men do need skin care, do they need skin care especially designed for them? NO. Why do men need skin care? Because skin care is not just a matter of beauty but also health.

The effects of solar elastosis One of the most recognizable and striking signs of skin aging is actinic elastosis. You know what it looks like: thickened, leather-like, deeply fissured skin seen on the back of the sun-exposed neck, but in some people it is also on their faces. These are the most striking wrinkles because they are deep and large. The little wrinkles we complain about are nothing when compared with these huge valleys and mountains in the skin of people who have exposed their faces and necks to UV damage for decades. Do you know what is going on in actinic elastosis? Probably not, but you don’t have to.…
